Webinar with Professor Larry Wittner: The New Nuclear Arms Race and How to End It

March 3 @ 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Larry Wittner — historian, prolific writer, and long-time peace activist — joins us for a timely discussion of our present nuclear threats, and the multipolar arms races of modern militarism, while giving special attention to solution strategies for grassroots action-takers.

Professor Wittner, longtime dedicated to disarmament action and scholarship, will help us size up our current nuclear challenges while highlighting some new approaches for the national and international peace community. His book Confronting the Bomb: A Short History of the World Nuclear Disarmament Movement, along with several volumes of nuclear weapons history, from WWII to the present, has cast an important framework for understanding how arms races start and how they persist, but also, vitally, how they can be reversed. As nuclear anxieties are torqued up by war in Ukraine, many of us are realizing just how treacherous is our world’s path forward, with civilization-annihilating threats abound. An isolated Putin with his finger on the button is just one flashpoint againt the backdrop of multipolar arms stockpiling and deep geopolitical instability.

But amid the high tensions, you can trust that Professor Wittner has a plan, and a practical optimism that we can work together to effect needed redirection.
